David Palmer LLB, MBA
Chief Executive Officer
In January 2017, David became Chief Executive Officer of the firm. He is a Director of Epworth, leads the Executive Committee and has ultimate responsibility for all aspects of the business.
He has previous experience in the asset management industry in the USA, Guernsey and London. David has served on a number of Boards in the Private Client and Hedge Fund sectors.
In 2007, he obtained an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. David worships at St. Alfege Church in Greenwich.
Marina Phillips FCA, MSc, Chartered MCSI, DCHA
Chief Financial Officer
Marina joined the firm in 2012. She is a Director of Epworth, a member of the Executive Committee and is responsible for the firms overall financial controls. Marina joined from St Joseph’s Hospice where she was Finance Director and Deputy CEO. She has over 20 years experience within the charity sector.
Marina qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1987 and has a Masters Degree from Cass Business School. She is also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments.
Stephen Beer BA, ASIP
Chief Investment Officer
Stephen joined the firm in 1994. He was appointed Chief Investment Officer in November 2015 and is a member of the Executive Committee. Stephen is responsible for investment strategy and our ethical investment approach. He manages the investment team, overseeing the management of all funds, and chairs the asset allocation and investment committees.
He is a member of the Methodist Church’s Joint Advisory Committee on the Ethics of Investment. He is also a member of the Church Investors Group steering committee.
Stephen has a BA in Single Honours Economics from the University of Durham. He is a member of All Souls, Langham Place, London.
Miles Askew BA, MSc, ASIP
Head of Research
Miles has worked at the firm for over 20 years. He is Head of Research and has overall responsibility for identifying quality companies that fit our investment philosophy.
He oversees a team of four, ensuring their research meets all our investment and ethical requirements.
Miles has an MSc in Investment Management from Cass Business School.
Christophe Borysiewicz BA, MA, CFA
Head of Investment Management
Christophe joined the firm in January 2004. He manages client portfolios and is responsible for investment advice and all aspects of client relationships.
He has a BA from the University of Oxford in Philosophy, Politics & Economics (graduated in 1999) and an MA from the University of Leeds in Japanese Studies (graduated in 2003). He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Christophe is a Circuit Steward in the West London Mission Circuit of the Methodist Church.
Mark O’Connor MMII Grad, ACII
Head of Business Development
Mark joined the firm as Head of Business Development in May 2017. His focus is on serving the investment needs of charities.
Mark has worked in a number of relationship management and business development roles within the investment management industry, including at Aviva Plc, Hermes Investment Management and Edentree Investment Management.
Mark is a graduate of the Marketing Institute of Ireland, an Associate the UK’s Chartered Insurance Institute and has completed the CFA Society’s Investment Management Certificate. He is also Treasurer of Oxted and District Junior Football Club.
Vanessa Meredith BA(Hons)
Vanessa joined the firm in September 2017 in the role of Compliance Officer.
She has 20 years experience working in the financial services industry and since 2011 has worked within a number of compliance roles at Ashcourt Rowan Plc, Towry and Tilney. Prior to this she worked as a sales trader within several investment banks, including CSFB and SG Securities.
Vanessa is a graduate with a BA (Hons) degree.
Matthew Richards BA MA CFA
Senior Fund Manager
Matthew joined as Senior Fund Manager in January 2015 and has 18 years of investment experience. Matthew is responsible for global equities, including the selection and oversight of external Fund Managers.
His previous roles include strategist at UBS Global Asset Management, financial journalist at the Financial Times and Cambridge University Visiting Scholar at the Levy Economics Institute.
Matthew is a frequent churchgoer.
Tendai Chigudu Bcom, MSc, CFA
Tendai originally joined us in March 2005 and is now a Fund Manager. She is responsible for managing our equity fund and conducting research across companies in the UK.
Previously, she worked in Private Wealth Management.
Tendai has achieved a BComm in Economics and Finance. Tendai holds an MSc in International Banking and Finance and is a CFA charterholder.
Jane Kotchkina MSc
Jane joined us in April 2017 and is a Fund Manager looking after our range of fixed income funds.
She previously worked for a number of investment management businesses including Citi Private Bank and Towry Ltd.
Jane has a BA (Hons) in Business and Financial Economics from Staffordshire University and an MSc in Quantitative Finance from the University of Westminster. She has also completed the CFA Society’s Investment Management Certificate.
Matthew Jones BSc
Assistant Fund Manager
Matthew joined the firm as a Trainee Fund Manager shortly after graduating from University in September 2014. In 2017 he was promoted to Assistant Fund Manager. He assists in the daily management of our range of investment funds and conducts bespoke research to identify new investments.
Matthew studied Economics at Swansea University, and has completed the CFA Society’s Investment Management Certificate. He is now studying to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and has passed levels 1 and 2.
Matthew worships at St Andrews Church, Chorleywood.
Safiya Nelson BA, MSc
Trainee Fund Manager
Safiya has worked for the firm since 2007. She started off as a Fund Administrator in the Investment Operations team and is now a Trainee Fund Manager in the Investment Team. Her current role includes assisting in the management of investment portfolios and conducting investment analysis and research.
Safiya has an MSc in International Finance and Capital Market Studies from the University of Brighton’s Business School and has attained the CFA Society’s Investment Management Certificate.
She is now studying to obtain the Charted Financial Analyst designation and has passed level 1.
Ferne Lacon BSc (Hons)
Trainee Fund Manager
Ferne joined the firm in September 2017 as a Trainee Fund Manager.
Over the next three years, she will work across a wide range of investment areas to give her a solid grounding in all aspects of investment management. Her role is to support the Fund Managers in their day to day portfolio management. She will also assist with client relationship management.
Ferne has a BSc (Hons) International Business with Spanish.
Sophie Leake BA (Hons)
Investment Assistant - Ethics
Sophie joined us in November 2016 as an Investment Assistant focusing on ethics.
She works alongside the investment team to conduct research into ethical issues and contribute to the development of ethical policies.
Sophie studied theology and music at university, applying theological thought to different issues in the church. This ties into her job at Epworth as she analyses different ethical issues as they relate to investment from a Christian perspective.
Neville White BA (Hons)
Neville joined the firm in 2010 as our Ethics Consultant having been Head of Ethical Investment for the Church of England and Secretary to the Church of England’s Ethical Investment Advisory Group for 13 years. He is Head of SRI Policy & Research at EdenTree Investment Management Ltd.
Neville holds a BA(Hons) degree in History and trained as an internal auditor. He is an independent member of the FTSE4Good expert committee on the marketing of breast milk substitutes.
Bill Seddon BSc(Econ), ASIP
Bill became a Special Advisor to Epworth following his retirement as Chief Executive in 2017, having worked for the organisation for over thirty years.
He is a graduate of University College London and has held a number of senior roles during his career including as a member of the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust Investment Committee, a Director of the EIRIS foundation, Treasurer of the Institutional Investor Group on Climate Change and as former Chair of the Church Investors Group.
He is currently an elected member of the House of Laity of the General Synod of the Church of England.
Chris Field IAQ
Chris joined the firm in 1998.
He is responsible for the day to day administration of our investment funds and is also Head of IT. Previously Chris worked at Citibank for 15 years in various investment operation positions.
Chris studied A Levels in French, German and Economics at Colfe’s Grammar School in Lee. He is also the Treasurer of New Eltham Methodist Church.
